Week 3 Day 1: White Picket Fences (The 1950s)

Activity 1: Meat and Three Veg
In the 1950's lot's of woman stayed at home to look after their children. They would clean the house, drop the kids at school and make dinner. in the 1950's they would do the 3 vegetable rule and one piece of meat. Here is a bit of writing saying if I like it or not.

I think I do like it because it's normal and easy if you just want a quick and normal dinner. But on the other hand sometimes it's nice to change it up and do a really nice dinner. If your having someone over or if you just want to feel special. But I think I like feeling special so I would have a fancy meal.

Activity 2: What’s in a Name?
during the 1950's 400,000 people came to New Zealand. That's ginormous!!! So lots of baby's were born so they needed names. In the olden day they were always called names that were a girl name if it was a girl or a boy name if it was a boy. Here are some names:

Girl Names/ Boy Names
Nikki Jake
Lily Sam
Pippi Liam

Bonus Activity: Snail Mail
From the 1950's to the 1960's people in New Zealand would write to each other by letter to catch up. Did you know that there was so much letter's that one person in The world would have written 87 letters!!! Here is a photo of the front cover of a post card.
I did this because it describes New Zealand. I did a Pohutukawa in the back round because Pohutukawa is a New Zealand thing. Then I put four hokey pokey photo's around the photo. Then in bold letters I write New Zealand. So this is my front cover of my letter.

Activity 2: Making a Fashion Statement
When WW2 had finished people went to there normal selfs again wereing the same clothes but if they went some where speachal they would wee a dress or a suit. Now 65 years on we were completely diffrent things.

I think I like our look because we have all new clothes but I love the stile they had in the olden days so I like them both.

Bonus Activity: Sweet Tooth
Image result for chocolate chip cookies with glass of milkAfter WW2 ended lot of people moved to a safe contry to have a family and to live in peace. When people came they would bring recipes with them live pasta, ice cream and chocolate. My favroute sweet treat is a freshly cooked chocolate chip biscate with a glass of milk. If you want to try this use this recipe:

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Dissolve baking soda in hot water. ...
  3. Bake for about 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are nicely browned.
  4. Then get a glass and pour a glass of milk to drink with
  5.  And there you go an awesome recipe for my favroute sweet treat.

Week 2 Day 4: Another World War (1939-1945)

Activity 1: An Eventful Experience
In world war one lots of things had gust happend. People were injured and lots killed. Did you know that when they fought on poppies they were red but once the blood spread from one flower to another poppies became red. Here is a summery about how Britain, France, New Zealand and Australia declared war on Germany.

it was 1939 September the 1st when Germany had just killed thousands in Poland. It was a tragic moment for Poland how thousand injured and killed. It was two days before Germany declared war on Britain, France, New Zealand and Australia. So on the radio the president of Poland said " I have to tell you know no such under take has been received and consequently this country is going to be in would war two with Germany."

Activity 2:  A Call to Arms
In WW2 lots of people got something called Victory cross (VC for short) people who got this award were brave and fought for there country well. I am going to write something about someone who got one in WW2 witch is James Ward.

James Ward was a brave man he fourght for his life and in favour of that he earned a Victory cross. He was the first New Zealand air man to received the Victory cross. He earned this VC by
a boomer making the plane fume with fire then he escaped or the wing on the plane he got a bit injured but his bravery deserved a VC. But sadly a two months later James was killed but his bravery made our country proud.

Bonus Activity: Women at Work
In the war lots of people got injured so you need doctors or neurses to help them live. Basicly
all the nurses and doctors were woman. Now here is a story that I will finish.

One day you are walking along the deck of the ship when you hear a loud bang. You start to run as you see smoke coming from the far end of the ship. You run towards the room where your patients are waiting to receive treatment from the doctor. Just as you arrive at the door to their room you hear another loud bang... To be continued

Continued.... I then rush all the patents to safe ground then look out side to see my team mate lying on the ground when I know she was shot. So I rushed her in to safety where I the bullet grabbed remover and removed the bullet then I grabbed eqitment to keep her from bleeding. Next I stitched up the wound as fast as possible and put her with the other patients.

I was terrified when suddenly someone flung through the door he was there to rescue us. So he lead us through dangerous sea's where we could see war still happening then we it was getting dark when I head a crash!!!

We had crashed into a big rock so I had started alerting the captain when I could felt water at my feet so I grabbed the emergency boat and put it into the water. Then I alerted everyone so the captain, nurses and some patents came on the rescue boat and for days drifted and drifted. A week later we found land it was Aotearoa!!!!

Activity 1: Dealing with Stress
In the 1930's when 30 percent had no jobs. It was very stressful to get food on the table or even have a roof over there heads. Stress is hard to get over but here are the things I do when I have stress. I read my favroute book, Pippi Longstockings because when I was little my dad would always read it to me and it's really funny. Also I go for a run with my mum because I love running.

Activity 2: Offering a Helping Hand
For a decade there was a drout so crop would not grow so that meant that fammers wouldn't be able to put food on the table. if I was in the drout I would sell our things we don't need also I would make clothes not buy them.

Bonus Activity: Paying it Forward
In the 1930's it all changed people where using there money wisely and got more money then they use to. If I could time travel I would bring them these four gifts. Chocolate, Pineapple lumps and chocolate fish lastly jaffas.

Activity 2: Art Deco
In the 1920's new artists have started coming and all new beautiful art has came. Like this peacie I am going to give it a rating then say why I did that. Here is the art made by Tamara de Lempicka.
I think I would give it a five because this painting looks
Like it was a photo it is so realistic. Also because the
reflections look really cool.

Bonus Activity: Crossing the Tasman
In 1920's someone called T.H. McWilliams was the radio worker. But dering the flight the radio didn't work so the person who was flying had to navigate with snow on the screen. But luckerly he made it to Christchurch with out any damage. Here is a poem if I was the person flying the plane with no sight.

The Flight
Blind flight nothing to see,
only white as a sheep,
but a flash of green gets my eye,
so I land then see I have landed in,
Aotearoa the land of the long white clound.

Week 2 Day 1: The Early Years (Late 1800s – 1919)

Activity 1: St Joseph’s Cathedral
In the olden day when the Europeans settled in they wanted a nice place to meet in something called a church. The biggest church in New Zealand is St Joseph’s Cathedral. Now here is a photo of a church and when it was built and where is it and how long it took to build. Here is it:

Activity 2: The Right to Vote

Years ago woman would not have the right to vote because they thought they worn't as important as men. But now in some countries they have started to consider letting them vote. Now we even have a woman as our president in New Zealand.
I Think that woman should have the right to vote because they are just as important as men are and they deserve to be noticed.
Bonus Activity: In Flanders Fields In Flader field were the place were people fought in the war. Did you now that the poppy fields got covered in blood so they spread the blood jean so now popys are red. Now here is a poem and how I think about it.

In Flanders Fields
BY JOHN MCCRAE
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
        In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
        In Flanders fields.

I think this poem s a very good poem but at the same time it makes me sad because lots of my ancestor fort in the war.

Day 5: The Dawn of a New Era

Activity 1: Translating Phrases
When europeans came to New Zealand they couldn't understand us so. It was hard to settle agreements, also in the treaty of waitangi the maori thought that they were going to own the land but the europeans thought that to. So here are some phrases that I will translate from maori to english then english to maori. Here they are:
Nau mai ki Aotearoa. Welcome to New Zealand
Lilli-Rose is my name, Lilli-Rose ko toku ingoa
What is your name? He aha to ingoa?
He pai taku ki te takaro i te whutupaoro, I like to play rugby.
Where do you come from? no hea koe?

Activity 2: The Treaty of Waitangi
The Treaty of Waitangi was signed on February the 6 1840 at waitangi. I am lucky another to live in the town of were this hapend. Did you know when they signed it the maori and the Europeans thought they were the ones who would have the land because the people who translated were wrong. If I went to waitangi for the day I would:

See the treaty rounds
Go to the museum
Go on the mountain bike park
Go into the marae and see a performance

I think I would rather do Go on the mountain bike park because my friends mum made it.

Bonus Activity: #EarnTheFern
Commonwealth games is something that is competing in lots of activitys like rugby, boxing, netball and hockey. In 2018 it will be held in Astralia, when the commonwealth games were held in Scotland New Zealand got 45 golds. Of of the gold medal winners was called Bill Kini, if I was going to inter view him I would ask him this:

Who was in your team when you played rugby?
Who was your coach?
How much gold medals did you win?
Was it your dream to box?

Day 4: Hitting a High Note

Activity 1: The Waiata - A Song in Your Heart
In the olden days moari would use waiata to give information or share emotion. Waiata can be used now for greeting. Also now we sing waiata just for fun. Here is my favourite waiata if you want to listen to it use this link.

I Like Toro Mai because in our school we do kapa haka and we always sing this song.

Toro mai tō ringa
Kia harirūtia
Tō ringa i awhi pono
I awhi taku tinana
Aue, aue, te aroha
Ki a rātou mā
Aue, aue, te aroha
Ngau whakaroto nei

Hikitia e ngā iwi
Kia rewa ki runga
Ngā taonga a ngā matua
Kua ngaro ki te pō

Activity 2: Playing Games
Today I read an article about poi raku, Kaiho rangi, Koruru Taonga and poi taua. I have done three of these activitys I have done poi raku, Koruru Taonga and poi taua. I am going to describe one of these activitys.
poi raku is a moari game, It helps with hand and eye cordonation. This game was originally for training worriers. The rules you call out matou witch is right and maui is left. You can't dig your stick in the ground and you have to run to the left stick if they call maui and the right stick if the call matou.

Bonus Activity: Musical Festivals – Matatini
In New Zealand every two years there is a kapa haka festival. The festival is called Te Matatini, were people can go in groups to preform and get judged. The group that won last year was Te Kapa Haka o Whāngārā Mai Tawhiti.
Now out of these three videos I will judge them and say who came first second and third and why I did that.
I think that Te Puku O Te Ika came 1st because there vocals and actions were outstanding and I thought it was fantastic beause it was like a memoral for the man on the photo. The 2 place tied was Tamatea Arikinui and Te Iti Kahurangi because Tamatea Arikinui was good on the vocals but had no actions and Te Iti Kahurang came second because there actions were great but there vocals weren't as good as the others.

Te Iti Kahurangi

Te Puku o Te Ika
